In a highly competitive environment, the client needed to create a strong App Store Optimization strategy that would yield results in the short term. It was also necessary to stand out from the competition, given that the apps in this category
have rather simple and similar features.

Research

Sudoku app icons often incorporate elements related to logic, numbers, grids, and puzzles. Visual motifs may include stylized Sudoku grids, number tiles, pencils, and brain-related symbols.
Screenshots often feature a clear and uncluttered interface, showcasing the Sudoku grid as the main element. They emphasize the simplicity of the app, highlighting the ease of navigation and interaction with the puzzles. Key features such as different difficulty levels, hints, and undo options are usually displayed in the screenshots. Some apps also show off unique selling points like daily challenges, seasonal events, or special modes.

Icon design

Sudoku enthusiasts and casual players alike will instantly recognize the icon as associated with the popular number puzzle game. The visual of the Sudoku grid immediately communicates the app’s primary function. 
A pencil has also been added to help the app stand out from the competition and make the icon look more eyecatching. But the inclusion of a pencil in the icon signifies not only the act of solving puzzles but also suggests that users can actively engage with the app. It conveys a sense of interaction, making it clear that the app is a tool
for playing Sudoku.

Screenshots

The main point of the screenshot redesign was to put the upper hand — we focused the user’s attention on the features of the app that are rarely seen in competitors. Also, the new design concept is more modern and closer to trends with new gradient blue background and 3d decorations. This tactic instantly improved the organic ranking and increased the number of daily downloads.

Results

Changing the visual part of the ASO helped the client to build a direct communication with the potential user, which influenced the rapid perception of the application’s offer
in the store. Also, the redesign made the overall design concept more coherent, so that the new visuals cause a pleasant impression and make the app more memorable. This led to an increase in installers (+65%) and a large share of organic installs (71%).
